Meet Rusty and Barbe Poage – The Creators of Bullet Snare

Hi there! We’re Rusty and Barbe Poage, the husband-and-wife team behind Bullet Snare, and we’re honored to share our story with you.

Our journey began in two very different places—Rusty grew up off the grid in Alaska, surrounded by rugged wilderness and the call of adventure, while Barbe spent her early years in the blue ridge mountains of Virginia. Now having lived in Oregon for over 20 years and despite our different upbringings, we share a passion for the outdoors, self-sufficiency, and the simple joys of nature.

As a disabled veteran, Rusty has always approached life with resilience, determination, and a commitment to problem-solving. These qualities have shaped not only our lives but also the design of the Bullet Snare.

How Bullet Snare Was Born

Our love for crab snaring started with a simple idea: freedom. We wanted to move away from the crowded piers and experience the thrill of catching crabs from any beach, on our terms. But, like many crabbers, we found that most snares fell short of what we needed.

So, we got to work. Together, we sat down and asked ourselves  what makes the perfect crab snare?

 • It should be easy to cast, with or without a fishing pole.  

• It should hold enough bait—at least a whole drumstick.  

• It should be simple to use, even with cold, wet fingers.   

• It must stand up to the harsh conditions of the coast.     

• It should be visible at deeper depths, so no crab escapes unnoticed.                                    

After months of trial and error, countless prototypes, and plenty of time spent testing along the Oregon coast, the Bullet Snare was born. The first time we used it, we knew we had created something truly special.
